Perfect End to Island Adventures

I found paradise, and maybe even my travelling stride.  Koh Lanta, the largest Thai island in the Andaman Sea.  It was supposed to be my last stop on the Thai adventure, but that story comes later.  I stayed at another wonderful and social hostel, Hub of Joys.  It was about a 10 minute walk to the beach, and where I was finally able to enjoy a relaxing morning at the beach.

After lunch, I joined a few others, and we decided to walk to the adjoining beach, little did we know how interesting this was going to be.  On the sketchy advice of a bartender, we decided to climb over “a few rocks”, this turned out to be much more than a few!  All in all the adventure was worth it.  At the next beach, we found a small family friendly resort, and relaxed with a game of jenga before settling in for sunset.  However, this was not meant to be, just as the sun started sinking, a sudden rainstorm started chasing us into the shelter of another restaurant and bar.

The following day was again spent exploring Koh Lanta, this time via a rental van!  Another amazing day in the books, and I made a decision!  After hearing everyone I came across rave about Koh Lipe, I decided to book two nights on this tiny island close to the Malaysian border.

Chasing the Sunset

Still in search of a sunset, I boarded a ferry, full of excitement and hope!  With this in mind, I boarded the ferry and headed off to Koh Lipe.

Sunny Sail to Koh Lipe

Koh Lipe is a rapidly growing island close to the Malaysian border, with only one main street and 3 beaches.  My hostel was clearly brand new, in fact the room still smelled of paint!  But I hardly spent time in the room, instead I walked the length and width of the island and quickly signed up for a snorkeling adventure.

The following morning I rose early and made my way to Sunrise beach.  The beach was practically deserted, and in the quiet of the morning I watched the sunrise on my last day on the island.

Snorkeling

Following a quiet morning, I headed out on the snorkeling trip.  It was beyond my imagination, the colorful corals and the wide array of tropical fish that were milling about.  It was easy to get carried away following a fish or just swimming in lazy circles taking the vibrant sea life.  If you ever get a chance to visit Thailand, you MUST go snorkeling!

We also stopped at an island covered in cursed black rocks and then spent sunset on a neighboring island.  Here I finally got my sunset!  It was every bit as magical as I was hoping.  The pictures cannot even begin to do the sunset justice.  It felt like Thailand was sending me off, as it was also my last night of the adventure!
